It is no gainsaying that the foriegn exchange rate set by the CBN for Nigerians is a very strong leash in disguise. The reason being that Nigeria is a consumer nation and as such has to pay for virtually everything she consumes.
Until Nigeria transists from being a consumer nation to being a producer nation the exchange rate will continually be the leash on Nigerians enjoying a better life.
Currently recharge cards seems to be sort of off that leash and as such the good life of cheap call and data rates exsists.
Over the years despite the level of inflation which nigeria has suffered soaring over an 100% in five years, call and data rates have been on the decrease. Exchange rate, fuel, scarcity and change in government have all failed to cause its rates to increase rather they keep falling due to competition and regulation.
Oh! if only we can learn from our one major success and economic breakthrough that stands out for all to see may be we might just begin our transition to freedom else the leash remains.
