Frozen Food Today - the jumbo saga
The rumors were confirmed yesterday as Nigerian broilers sold for as much as foreign broilers which sell for N1000 a kilo as against N900 its former price.
The border still being closed has caused prices of frozen foods to soar even higher.
The exchange rate isn't helping either as frozen fishes for which taxes are paid for and as such do not get smuggled aren't left out in the price increase. A carton of Croaker fish increased to a new high of N23,000 as against N22,000 some sellers sold for as much as N24,000.
The Jumbo Saga
Today retailers consumers wholesalers dealers were on the run with cash at hand seeking for the new hot cake Jumbo laps of chicken.
Some where disappointed others were lucky some greatly favored as money changed hands in the most unusual way.
Jumbo laps that sold earlier this week for N9000 a carton (foreign chicken of course) sold for N9500 - N10000 a carton today.
Some smart retailers bought earlier during the day and resold later in the day from their neighbors others seeking lower prices and making unwise speculations didn't join the moving train and where left out during the rush hour later in the day.
Some sellers got their pound of flesh from buyers that often proved to be selective of the cartons they buy as they had no choice but to buy the cartons of Jumbo in whatever state it was whether stone cold frozen, thier preferred choice also known as "sound carton", or ice cream frozen a weak torn carton.
The day ended with Jumbo going out of stock and consumers and buyers alike resorting to the now expensive Nigerian broilers.
